OUTER THOUGHTS I
OBSG Collective's very first group exhibition Outer Thoughts was held on April 8, 2014, in Bushwick, Brooklyn at Brooklyn Fire Proof. I showcased my "Forces of Eve" series. The OBSG Collective displayed their latest work ranging from mixed media to watercolor paintings to photography. Partnering with Village Voice, The Culture LP, and Spoiled NYC, we were able to bring in a total of 250 people to our first event as a collective.
OUTER THOUGHTS II
I was the curator for OBSG Collective: a group of young professionals focused on innovative high-quality art, design, film, and music. OBSG is a team of graphic designers, graffiti artists, photographers, videographers, and music producers. On June 20, 2015, we held our second annual collective exhibition called Outer Thoughts 2 at Studio 301 NYC in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Five of us were on the walls and showcased our tapestries, photography, mixed media pieces, custom skateboard decks, watercolor paintings, music videos, and motion graphic pieces.
Inspired by my heritage and the Filipino flag, my piece was an 8' x 9' tapestry entitled "Bandila: Manila". Bandila meaning "flag" in the Filipino language, Tagalog. Each tapestry is named after one of the eight Filipino provinces and is part of my "Pamana" textile series.
To create this piece I started with a 9" x 12" sheet of handmade watercolor paper created by a small group of Filipina women. Pulling inspiration from the intricate and indigenous prints of the Philippines, I carefully distributed paint onto the paper. My choice of colors (red, blue, and yellow) directly represent the colors of the flag. Finally, I printed the watercolor piece onto a cloth and added glitter onto the final tapestry.
OBSG Collective partnered up with Spoiled Media and The Culture LP to make this event a success. House of Marley donated 3 of their Bluetooth portable speakers as giveaways and Clique Vodka provided the spirits for the evening.
